Dr. Javier Garcia Oliva

For session 2 of The Great Hall Lecture Series, we were joined by Dr. Javier Garcia Oliva, who talked about Human Rights in the United Kingdom. Dr. Javier Garcia Oliva joined us from The University of Manchester and we were thrilled to hear from him.
About This Class
The second lecture in the series took place on Wednesday 24th June 2020 and Dr. Oliva reflected alongside children on the importance of human rights, along with how we should work together with other nations.
Due to the UK’s departure from the European Union, there has been confusion around our position on human rights. In this session Dr. Oliva’s lecture shined light on the different international mechanisms of protection of human rights and looked at the European Convention of Human Rights, as well as the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights.
The session ended with the importance of human rights and how irrespective of the UK leaving the European Union, the UK’s commitment to the European Convention of Human Rights remains imperative.
On behalf of Scarisbrick Hall, we were delighted to be joined by Dr. Javier Garcia Oliva as part of our online lecture series.
