Dr Tierney Thys is a Biologist and Research Associate at California Academy of Sciences. In 2004, Tierney became a National Geographic Emerging Explorer.

About Tierney Thys

Since becoming a National Geographic Emerging Explorer back in 2004, Tierney has since received grants from National Geographic for an array of projects. One of which includes satellite-tracking marine megafauna, which works to monitor connections between nature and human wellbeing.

Tierney has joined many National Geographic Expeditions and has travelled to every continent in the world. Tierney is also a filmmaker and has helped produce award-winning documentaries including; Strange Days on Planet Earth and Shape of Life.

Now an independent filmmaker, you can find Tierney contributing regularly on Ted-Ed, and also serving on the advisory board for Innovation Think Tank and Think Beyond Plastic.

At The Global Classroom, we are thrilled to have Dr Tierney Thys involved and very much enjoy listening to her passion for the world and global sustainability.
